Ticket sales for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena have rocketed since Andy Murray became the fourth player to qualify for the elite season-ending men's tennis event. According to new data from second-hand ticket exchange viagogo, demand for tickets to the world's biggest indoor tennis event increased by 20% once Murray's attendance at the O2 was confirmed.
Murray became the fourth player to qualify for the historic event, following Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, after reaching the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai, China. There are four more singles spots to be confirmed as the tennis season draws to a close, and the eight singles players will be joined by the top eight doubles teams in the world. At present, world No.1s Bob and Mike Bryan and Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic have qualified for the doubles draw.
“The surge in demand for Barclays ATP World Tour Finals tickets suggests that the support for Murray amongst the British public is still very much alive," said Edward Parkinson, Director of viagogo UK. "As the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the last major tournament in the tennis calendar all eyes will be on Murray to perform at his very best and end the season on a high”.
The competition operates on a round-robin format, with the top four players from two groups going through to the semi-finals and final. The winner is crowned the ATP World Tour year-end champion.
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals takes place at the O2 Arena from 21-28 November 2010.
