Jose Mourinho's Fifa World Coach of the Year 2010 trophy - the most significant individual silverware won by the maverick Portuguese coach to date - has sold for £26,000 this evening as a charity auction in memory of Mourinho's mentor, Sir Bobby Robson, closed.
Sportingintelligence can reveal the winning bidder for Mourinho's trophy was Lance Bradley, the head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK. 'Sir Bobby was so special, that's why I took part,' Bradley said. 'I only had the privilege of meeting Sir Bobby once, but I'll never forget it.'
The trophy (pictured right, as Mourinho accepted it) was one of 182 lots in an auction that has been running online since 8 October to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough, two cancer charities dear to the late, great England manager, who died two years ago aged 76.
Sportingintelligence is proud to have been a media partner in supporting this cause and the background story linked here about the final day of auction ran on this site on Sunday morning.
Other high-earning prizes were a day's training with Barcelona, Messi & Co plus match tickets to a Barca game (which sold for £12,100) and the chance to play a match at Portman Road, the home of Sir Bobby's former club, Ipswic, raised more than £11,000 from the auction of the combined bids to be the home team, coached by Mick Mills, and the away team, coached by George Burley.

Gina Long, the organiser of the auction and a charity ball held last Thursday to raise money, is expected to announce on Monday morning that the charities will benefit well in excess of £150,000 from the auction and ball.
