A digest of some of the Manchester United stories making headlines today
.
From the official website, Nani insists that United are now the 'real deal' and will start a proper challenge to Chelsea. "I think you are starting to see the real Manchester United now. We are very confident at the moment. We want to win the next games and try and catch Chelsea." Meanwhile Gabriel Obertan is "very proud" of his midweek European display.
.
The agent of the Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez insists United still want his man, despite Fergie saying he won't be shopping in January. "Manchester United has been following the performances of Alexis since some time ago and it could be a possibility in the future," Fernando Felicevich is quoted as saying on Sky. And the Chilean 21-year-old's agent has also been talking to others, while the Mirror, apparently having read this reports, now think Sanchez "could be on the verge of a move" to United. Elsewhere, Marik Hamsik thinks United will be watching him for Napoli, keen to sign him. Sure thing.
.
Wayne Rooney will be burnt in effigy, for Bonfire night. And in the ongoing absence of Shrek from United's line-up, Wolves' manager Mick McCarthy, whose team faces United this weekend, insists Javier Hernandez can do the biz for United instead. “They might have had a few rumblings with Wayne Rooney, but to have Hernandez around scoring goals like that doesn’t half take the pressure off," he says.
.
United's official Facebook page has reached another milestone, passing 4 million members. United's massive growth in this area was first reported on this site in September, and ever since then, the official site has made a big deal out of it, quoting sportingintelligence in its own coverage, albeit without linking to us (cheeky monkeys. Sort it out Joel). Anyhow, more than 4m is now the FB tally, which means among global sports teams only Barca, Real Madrid and, errrm, Galatasaray still lie ahead to be overtaken.

Away from United proper at spin-off FC United, about to make a splash in the FA, Paul Newman in the Independent takes at look at their progress, Ollie Holt looks to the future of Utd v FC, and Andy Walsh talks about how FC considered snubbing a televised FA Cup date.
