Leicester's Eriksson and Manchester United's Ferguson offer prizes and praise in honour of Sir Bobby Robson
4 September 2011
Sven Goran Eriksson has become the latest big name in football to donate a 'money can't buy prize' for the October auction to raise money for Sir Bobby Robson's foundation, while Sir Alex Ferguson is the latest to pay tribute to Sir Bobby while donating his own prize.
Eriksson, a former England manager as was Sir Bobby, will host a party of four at a Leicester home game in the Championship this season, including drinks with Eriksson and his coaching staff after the game in Sven's private office at the King Power Stadium.
Sir Alex, who is donating two VIP tickets with hospitality for the Bolton game on on 14 January, plus a stadium tour and a signed photo, personalised for the winner, says: 'Sir Bobby’s love of the game and his devotion to his beloved football club, Newcastle, never diminished even during his tough battle to beat his illness. He was an inspiration to us all.
'Sir Bobby was a great friend of mine and I know he would be extremely proud that the charity work, he was so committed to, is continuing in his name. I am sure Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Auction and Ball will be a great success and I would urge everyone to give generously to this worthy cause.'
Sir Bobby died two years ago, age 76, and the charity auction and a ball - both in October - will raise funds in Sir Bobby’s memory for Sir Bobby’s foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
