First same-day Celtic and Rangers defeats to capital rivals in 38 years: 2,625-1

Celtic and Rangers both losing SPL matches on the same day, as they did last night to Hearts at Hibs respectively, is a rare enough occurrence, but for both of them to lose to Edinburgh teams on the same day happens less than once in a generation.
Celtic lost 2-0 at Hearts last night while Rangers lost 3-0 at home to Hibs. The last time both Old Firm sides lost on the same day to the Edinburgh pair was on 29 April 1972, when Rangers lost 2-1 at home to Hibs, and Celtic were humped 4-1 at Hearts.
Bookies take huge sums as a matter of course on the Old Firm teams winning, which is no surprise because before last night Rangers had not lost this season, and Celtic had been beaten only by Rangers.
But William Hill took less than £200 in total in all their shops and online combined on a double loss for the Old Firm last night, typically in £2 bets in shops in Edinburgh.
One punter did have a £50 double online at 64-1 on Hearts and Hibs both winning. That punter’s bet equated to more than a quarter of all the money in Britain on that outcome - and he won £3,200.
The odds on the double of 2-0 to Hearts and 3-0 to Hibs was 2,625-1, and not surprisingly, nobody in the world backed that.
“The two results were real coupon busters but those who placed the double will feel as though Christmas had come early,” said Hills spokesman Joe Crilly.
